Lance is like a lot of people I know in the pagan and wiccan communities. He wants to believe that symbols have power in the theoretical sense. He's not comfortable allowing those same symbols to have power in the real world.

Norway called him on that. If Lance wanted to have powerful symbols in his life, he couldn't just pick and choose the ones that comforted him. It's an all or nothing proposition. Either symbols have power, or they don't.

Also, he was saying that we don't give up our power over symbols when we accept their power. We still filter reality through ourselves. That means the power of the symbols in our lives is filtered through us as well. So, if you write off something in the real world as "just a symbol," you lose the power of that symbol.

Nice!

I love how the writing you've done has condensed and supported this - it's almost become a throw-away aside, but makes it all rooted and believable... hmm, could make one believe in writing backstory....

So, I can be hopelessly literal at times... does Norway mean it's not so much about the symbol, but the interpretation of it? That Lance can choose the significance as opposed to accepting a traditional meaning?

Occupy IS an Inspiring step in our evolution...

thanks for sharing your story

                some few quotes to ponder

1. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit.
- Aristotle

3. Do not wait to strike till the iron is hot; but make it hot by striking.
- William B. Sprague

5. Whether you think you can or think you can't, you're right.
- Henry Ford

15. In any situation, the best thing you can do is the right thing; the next best thing you can do is the wrong thing; the worst thing you can do is nothing.
- Theodore Roosevelt

19. Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
- Mark Twain

35. Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.
- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

72. Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.
- Mahatma Gandhi

100. Adversity introduces a man to himself.
- Author Unknown

I'm proud of you, I'm proud of us. I hope that we will soon reach a critical mass. Defending our brothers and sisters against those who abuse us should be the norm. In this present day it takes courage.
